AERO South Africa: Postponement to 2021 due to impact of COVID-19

Apr 2, 2020

In light of the current situation pertaining to the increased spread of the Coronavirus in South Africa and following the South African Government’s announcement of a national state of disaster, Messe Frankfurt has taken the decision to postpone the AERO South Africa conference and exhibition to 2021.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic on 11 March 2020. Since then, the virus has spread to all 9 provinces across the country, resulting in a travel ban from high-risk countries, a ban on gatherings larger than 100 people and ultimately a nationwide lockdown to curb further spread of the virus.

Messe Frankfurt South Africa takes the safety of its exhibitors, sponsors, partners, speakers, and attendees very seriously and is committed to do what they can to flatten the curve. “We must acknowledge that these are challenging times all around the globe. It is important for us as trade fair organizers to make the appropriate decision for the safety of our local and international exhibitors, visitors, partners and stakeholders,” said Joshua Low Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt South Africa in an earlier statement regarding the virus.

AERO South Africa is presented in corporation with Messe Friedrichshafen, organisers of Europe‘s largest general aviation trade show. The successful launch of AERO South Africa in 2019 welcomed more than 4200 visitors and over 100 exhibitors. This year’s show was scheduled to take place at the Wonderboom National Airport from 2-4 July 2020. The AERO Friedrichshafen team understands the impact of Covid-19 and supports the decision to postpone this event. Messe Frankfurt South Africa is committed to delivering a high-quality and successful event in 2021. Careful consideration and engagement with industry stakeholders will be undertaken to ensure the best possible dates for 2021. The new dates will be announced shortly thereafter.
